Padel for Beginners in Dubai: Your First Game

Plan your first padel session in Dubai: choose a beginner-friendly group, check equipment, learn the basic rules and confirm your court booking.

By JOINO Sport · Published

Your first padel session needs a place to play, people who know you are starting and enough time to learn the basics together. Begin with a beginner session or a lesson, then organise a social game with players who want a similar pace.

We have put the main decisions in order so you can arrive with a clear plan.

Choose a session designed for beginners

Tell the club you are new to padel when you enquire. Ask whether it offers an introductory lesson or a group for first-time players, and what equipment is included.

For example, Padel One's official website lists private lessons and group sessions. Confirm the instructor, group level, duration and current price directly with the club. You can also use the Dubai venue directory to build a shortlist close to your preferred area.

If you are playing with friends, let everyone know it is a learning session. Agree to leave time for an explanation of the serve, walls and scoring before you begin a game.

Check equipment before the day

Ask whether rackets and padel balls are included or available to rent. Confirm the rental cost and how equipment is collected. If you are borrowing a racket, check its grip and wrist strap with the club or your instructor.

Bring suitable sports clothing and ask the venue about footwear requirements for its court surface. Confirm any changing facilities you plan to use. Put your booking confirmation and the venue's map link somewhere you can access easily.

Learn the basic rules before your first rally

The International Padel Federation's Rules of Padel, applicable from 1 January 2026, provide the official rules. These basics are a starting point for a first session:

  • Doubles has two players on each side of the net.
  • Bounce the ball before serving and strike it at or below waist height, with at least one foot on the ground.
  • Serve diagonally into the opposite service box. The receiver lets it bounce before returning it.
  • During a rally, a ball that hits the enclosure after bouncing on the court can remain in play. Return it before a second ground bounce.
  • The standard point sequence is love, 15, 30 and 40, followed by game. Agree on the format used at deuce before starting.
  • Wear the racket's safety cord around your wrist.

The official rules cover the exceptions and scoring options. Ask your instructor to demonstrate the serve and a return from the glass before you play a scored game.

Find people who want the same pace

Give your group a clear description of your experience. Explain whether you have had a lesson, played a few sessions or are holding a padel racket for the first time.

JOINO's current playing level scale runs from 1 to 7. Onboarding provides an initial estimate based on your background and answers. Discuss that estimate with the people you plan to play with and read our guide to finding compatible partners.

JOINO Discover is available to eligible, approved members aged 18 and over who opt in. Your available players and matches depend on local member activity.

Confirm the court and the group

Choose a venue all four players can reach. Check the total cost, rental charges, cancellation policy and who will hold the booking. Joining a JOINO match and reserving a court are separate steps.

Share the start time, arrival time and map link with everyone. For indoor options, use our indoor Dubai guide. After the session, ask your group what you would like to practise next and choose a possible date to play again.
